This the last of Eight Original Outsider Art Drawings by Ida Carney of Boston Massachusetts. The first Painting in this auction is by far my favorite and is a classic example of American Outsider Folk Art. Signed at the top, “Ida Carney Jan. 1962” this charcoal drawing depicts an incident between Ida and her daughter. According to Ida the story is written along the boarder, “Wouldn’t you know it, this is our baby Debbie Edwards. She is in my home. I am getting ready to take her home 498. She tore my dolls head off. I did what I had to do. I put her in the chair until I got ready to take her home. She fell asleep from her little worries.” Everything about this painting from the oversized sleeping Debbie Edwards to the smaller scenes and objects around the border make this a classic. The painting on the other side is a self portrait and is titled “1940. I did the back of my head.” At the bottom is a conflicting date where is marked, “By Ida Carney December 1939, 417 Mass Avenue.” Both paintings are in perfect condition and mounted on either side of a stiff cardboard, they were then sealed in plastic by the original artist by sewing around the edges. ..... I tried to find out more about this artist with no luck, however I believe she has classic Black American Outside Artist, just unknown.
