Description
NIKIFOR KRYNICKI         Epifaniusz Drowniak        (1895-1968) Also called Nikifor Krynicki, real name Epifaniusz Drowniak. Born 1895, died 1968 in Krynica. Considered one of the world's finest naïve (primitive) painters; self-taught.Nikifor was a Lemko after his mother. His father was a Pole; the legend has it that he was a recognized painter, code-named "T". Nikifor's mother raised him on her own, in extreme poverty and hardship, hiring herself out for various household jobs. He inherited from her a hearing and speech impediment. Nikifor was a self-taught artist, but he must certainly have been endowed by Nature with an extraordinary talent. Expert speak of his "phenomenal artistic intuition", which helped him to arrive at ideal colour compositions quickly and flawlessly. One of the greatest values of Nikifor's art was his palette, recognised by all the scholarly authorities. Most of Nikifor's pictures are water-colours. It was in this technique that those of his works regarded as his best achievements during the interwar period were made. In later years he also used gouache and crayon. His pencil sketches come from his final years; he didn't manage to fill them in colour. Regardless of the theme, the dimensions of Nikifor's works are small, often not much larger than a copybook sheet. Initially he would use the scraps he was given: Austrian office forms, used school copybooks, chocolate wrappers, cigarette boxes, wrapping paper, cardboard, etc. Another item in his workshop were his seals. Nearly a score of them, in different sizes and designs, all made strictly according to Nikifor's instructions. He applied them to his completed works, endowing them with a well-nigh official, documental status. Technique: watercolour on paper. Measurements: 21x27cm./in frame/ Signed: Marked with artist's stamps.      picture is in excellent condition!!!     Payment methods:   ***PayPal***   ***Bank transfer***        KONTAKT: artnaive@interia.pl
