Description
Beautiful Pair of Red Head Duck Decoys by Ken Kirby Up for bid is a beautiful pair of Red Head decoys. They were carved and painted by Ken Kirby who has been making decoys for 24 years and won many ribbons for his work.  He is known for making copies of old classic duck and shorebird decoys.  These birds are made from kiln-dried cedar; the hen has brown glass eyes and the drake has yellow glass eyes.  Each bird has been hollowed out to make it very light and each has a 1/2" bottom board.   The bills have been nicely carved and the heads display the profile of the distinguised Red Head ducks.  They are made to simulate a pair of old Canadian style hunting decoys.    The paint detail is quite defined but still in the gunning style paint with a dark patina.  The drake has comb-painted vermiculation.    Each bird has been heat stamped with "Ken Kirby" and then signed and dated 2008 by him.     Each bird measures 16 1/2" from bill to tail, 7" high and has  a 7 " body width.  Shipping cost:  $14.00 with insurance in US, slightly more in Canada.
